How to Eliminate Poverty in India

India is one of poorest countries in the world. The rate of economic growth since a last couple of decades is quite impressive. The number of billionaires has increased. The number of cars on road has increased. But the number of poor people is still unchanged.

Very large number of Indians do not have a home of their own. They do not get nutritious food. They do not have proper clathings. They do get proper medical facilities. Their children are not getting proper education. Due to high inflation and low and stagnant wages poor Indias are unable to live a life of dignity. Moreover, millions of Indian are without any job.

Government has started a number of schemes for uplifting people from poverty. But due to rampant corruption and inefficiency of the bureaucracy, most these schemes have achieved only little success.

Also, it appears that political parties are not seriously interested in eliminating poverty. It seems they want to keep people poor so that they may get their votes just by promising a loaf of bread at the time of elections. Only one or two leaders are genuinely interest in development of the country. Others are simply interested in developing their own family-members and those who pay them.

According to me, a large number of bureaucrates and politicians are responsible for the widespread povery in India. These people are tasked to provide good-paying employment, affordable food, clothing, housing, medicine and education as well as other essential services to the people. But they have failed to perform upto expectations. There is acute shortage of accountability and tranparency in the government and civil services.

India should learn from such countries like Singapore, South Korea, Japan and the Nordic Countries. Poverty is a bloat on the face of India. She has no right to call herself a great power. India is not more than Congo or any other povery-stricken sub saharan country. People from foreign countries laugh at India's poverty. India has plenty of resources. These resources are being looted by a handful politicians, bureaucrats and crony-capitalists.

Government should ensure that each adult person gets suitable employment. Inflation should be under control. Government should provide houses at affordable rates so that each and every person may sleep under a roof of his own.

Also, each child of age upto 14 years should be declared a national asset. The government should provide all essential amenities to ensure all-round developmet of the child. The number of schools, colleges should be increased and trained teachers should be recruited. The curriculum should be revised to ensure every educated person is employable.

Government should invest heavily in reasearch and development. It should establish thousands of new factories for competing with China, Taiwan, South Korea etc where it can provide employment to millions of people.

Government should run awareness programmes for educating people about the  benefits of birth control. Increasing the literacy level will help in checking population explosion.

Government should treat poverty as a matter of national honour. India will be truly a superpower on that day when each and every India has smile on his face.
